The Dominican Republic, The Villa Luxe Way
Larger and more varied than most of its Caribbean neighbors, the Dominican Republic offers a range of settings that no single-island destination can match, from beach resort to private estate to surf town to quiet peninsula.
Punta Cana and Bávaro anchor the east coast's long white-sand beaches, with Cap Cana adding a more private, gated luxury-development feel, alongside golf, villas, and marina access. La Romana and Casa de Campo bring a different character to the southeast: established, estate-style villa living built around golf, polo, equestrian facilities, and an integrated full-service marina, closer in feel to a country club resort than a conventional beach town. The north coast, around Puerto Plata, Cabarete, and Sosúa, has a more independent character, particularly known for surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, diving, and a lively mix of local and international communities. Farther east, the Samaná Peninsula is more strongly oriented toward nature and ecotourism, prized for its January-to-March humpback whale season and for stretches of coastline that remain considerably less developed than the major resort zones around Punta Cana and Bávaro.
